Bharat Taxi, launched on Thursday at Vigyan Bhawan, will function on the cooperative model to protect drivers from exploitation, similar to how the Amul has safeguarded dairy farmers of the country, said National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Managing Director Pankaj Bansal.
Addressing the launch event, Bansal said Bharat Taxi is not just a transport service but a mission aligned with Atmanirbhar Bharat, aimed at creating dignified and sustainable livelihoods for drivers.
He noted that Amul was established under the guidance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to end the exploitation of dairy farmers, and Bharat Taxi draws inspiration from the same cooperative philosophy.
“Just as Amul empowered farmers by giving them ownership and fair returns, Bharat Taxi will empower drivers by protecting them from unfair practices and ensuring respect and economic security,” he said.
The cooperative-based platform is expected to open new avenues for drivers, provide relief from exploitative aggregator models, and ensure collective growth through shared ownership.
Bansal thanked all institutions and stakeholders for their contribution in making the initiative a reality, calling Bharat Taxi a transformative step in driver empowerment.
