The Assam Cabinet has approved a waiver of stamp duty on loans of up to Rs 10 lakh availed by Self-Help Group (SHG) members under the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM).
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the exemption will apply to individual loan documents for livelihood and enterprise activities financed by scheduled commercial banks, regional rural banks, cooperative banks and other RBI-regulated financial institutions.
The move is aimed at reducing borrowing costs, encouraging women-led entrepreneurship and strengthening rural livelihoods. The Cabinet also cleared several other policy measures, including reforms related to property registration, medical admissions and public procurement.
