Assam StCb Chairman wins Assembly elections

Biswajit Phukan, Chairman of Assam State Cooperative Bank, has been re-elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Sarupathar constituency in Assam, securing a decisive mandate.

Contesting on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, Phukan registered a resounding victory, defeating his nearest rival by a margin of over 56,000 votes.

The emphatic win reflects strong public support for his leadership and grassroots connect in the region.

Phukan, who has been actively associated with the cooperative banking sector, is known for his focus on strengthening rural credit systems and expanding financial inclusion through cooperative institutions. His dual role as a cooperative bank chairman and legislator is expected to further bridge policy initiatives with grassroots implementation.

Political observers believe his re-election will provide renewed momentum to cooperative development in Assam, particularly in enhancing access to credit for farmers, small entrepreneurs, and rural communities.
