Assam Cooperation Minister Kaushik Rai held an interaction with cooperative societies in Nalbari, highlighting their contribution to grassroots economic development and announcing plans for a grand Cooperative Conclave in December.
Sharing details of the interaction, Rai said Nalbari’s cooperatives are making notable contributions across diverse sectors, including dairy, handloom and the traditional Japi industry, reflecting the strength of grassroots self-reliance.
To further strengthen the cooperative movement, the Assam Government will organise a grand Cooperative Conclave in December, providing a platform to showcase cooperative achievements and explore new opportunities.
The Minister also urged cooperative societies and farmers to focus on organised potato cultivation to leverage the presence of Northeast India’s first PepsiCo plant in Nalbari. He emphasised that organised production could help farmers secure an assured market and fair prices while reducing dependence on middlemen.
Rai further suggested showcasing cooperative products at the historic Nalbari Raas Mahotsav, providing local societies with greater visibility and opportunities to reach consumers.
Assam Cabinet colleague Shri Jayanta Malla Baruah and senior officials were also present during the interaction.
