The Maharashtra government has constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) to facilitate implementation of the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana, 2026, aimed at providing relief to indebted farmers.
The committee will negotiate with nationalised banks, private banks and regional rural banks to determine the quantum of concessions to be extended under the farm loan waiver and One-Time Settlement (OTS) framework.
The panel will assess relief based on the ledger balance of crop loans and restructured non-performing assets (NPAs) as on the date they turned overdue.
The move follows the Maharashtra Cabinet’s decision of June 2, 2026, to grant debt relief to defaulting farmers while also incentivising those who have regularly repaid their loans.
Apart from the Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), the committee includes the Principal Secretary (Cooperation), Managing Director of MahaIT, Vidyadhar Anaskar, Administrator of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank, the Convenor of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), and the Cooperation Commissioner and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, who will serve as Member Secretary.
The committee is expected to play a crucial role in finalising the financial contours of the state’s ambitious farm debt relief programme.
