Amul refutes Viral Claims on Cheese Safety

Dairy major Amul has issued a statement refuting viral claims that its processed cheese contains glass-like crystals, calling the allegations false and misleading.

Clarifying the issue, Amul said, “The glass-like pieces seen are due to crystallisation of calcium salts in processed cheese, caused by storage under frozen conditions for a long period.”

The mega Cooperative explained that these edible salt crystals may give a gritty texture but dissolve in lukewarm water and pose no safety risk. Amul added that such videos spread misinformation and assured consumers that its products are manufactured in state-of-the-art facilities with stringent quality standards.
