Multi-state UCB: Bharat Co-op Bank prepares to go to polls

Mumbai based Multi-State Scheduled Bank- Bharat Cooperative Bank is ready to go to the polls, process for which started last week. The list of eligible voters has also been released. While the Polling would take place on 2nd of October, results are expected by 5th October.

Talking to this Correspondent A.K.Chavan, Additional Registrar (Cooperative Society) who has been appointed as the Returning officer said, “There are 1,75,566 members of the bank as on 1.09.2018 out of which 1,74,184 are eligible to cast their votes during the election. 1382 members are ineligible to give vote because they are employees of the bank as it is mentioned in the bye-laws that employees can’t cast their votes”, Chavan added.

“The members of the bank are entitled to vote in the election of 20 candidates i.e.17 from General category, 1 from SC/ST category and 2 from women category. The election process would go on for about one month”, Chavan informed.

Later, he sent the election program to this correspondent through WhatsApp which reads, “Candidates can file their nominations papers from 1st Sep to 10th September where as the scrutiny of nomination forms will be done on 12th September 2018. The final list of contesting candidates after the withdrawal would be published on 15th September 2018”, it further reads.

According to the election program, “Polling and counting of votes would be held on 2nd October 2018 and 4th October 2018 respectively. The result would be announced on 5th October.

When this correspondent wanted to have comment from Jaya C.Suvarna the present Chairman of the bank regarding the election proceedings, his office informed that the Chairman is out of town you may contact him later. However, the office refused to share his contact details.

Bharat Cooperative Bank has about 101 branches across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat. In last FY 2017-18 the bank has earned a net profit to the tune of Rs 93.38 crore.
