Kalyan Janata Sah Bank elects new team; Ambekar & Phatak grab top posts

C.A. Sachin Sudhakar Ambekar and Dr. Ratnakar Narayan Phatak have been elected as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Kalyan Janata Sahakari Bank, elections for which were held on Wednesday. It is being said that all the winners owe allegiance to RSS.

Ambekar and Phatak have replaced Adv. Suresh Patwardhan and Madhusuda Patil respectively from the post of Chairman and Vice-Chairman. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Suresh Andhare, Assistant Registrar who was appointed as the returning officer to oversee the election process.

The newly elected Chairman Ambekar had been on the board of the bank as the expert director since 2007 and for the first time he fought the election and became victorious. Phatak has been on the board of the bank as director since 2015.

Soon after being elected as the Chairman Ambekar said to Indian Cooperative, “I am thankful to the board and other well-wishers who have given me such a big responsibility. I will work together with the management and other officials to take the bank to newer heights. Though the banking industry is facing many challenges after Covid-19, we will tackle them”, he sounded confident.

The election was conducted for 15 seats of the Board of Directors in which two seats were reserved for women and one seat for the SC/ST category. In these two categories candidates were elected unopposed. The elections were held on the remaining 12 seats of the general category, and a total 17 candidates had submitted nomination forms. 12 candidates handpicked by RSS who fought the elections under the banner of ‘Janata panel’ won the elections defeating the 5 candidates of the opposite panel.

On average each candidate of ‘Janta Panel’ received more than 5000 votes. There are around 40 thousand eligible voters out of which 5,826 members cast their votes during the election. The 54 voting centers had been set up in 10 districts of Maharashtra.

In the new board around seven candidates are newcomers. The Kalyan Janata Sahakari Bank is one of performing UCBs which has a network of 42 branches in different states.
