Ex MP Ravindra re-elected Chairman of AP State Fed of UCBs

Chitturi Ravindra (Ex-MP) and Abdul Jeelan Shaikh have been re-elected as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Urban Banks and Credit Societies Federation respectively, in the election held on Wednesday.

Ravindra is also the Chairman of Kakinada Cooperative Town Bank and Shaikh is the Chairman of Gooty Cooperative Town Bank.

The election was held soon after the Annual General Meeting of the federation. In the meeting it was unanimously passed that the federation would continue to be a member of Nafcub.

Earlier the federation had threatened to quit the Nafcub fold. It is reported that it was Nafcub’s former Director and Senior Co-operator Manam Anjaneyulu who prevailed on the members and directors not to withdraw their membership from Nafcub.

It was said that the federation board has 17 directors but last year due to Covid-19 a few directors lost their lives. In the new board the seats of those who died have been filed and the rest are the old ones. The whole board has been elected unopposed.

Visakhapatnam Urban Cooperative Bank’s Chairman Chalasani Raghavendra Rao has been made the secretary in the new board. Earlier, Venkat Ratnam was the secretary of the federation.

Soon after the election, talking to Indian Cooperative Ravindra said, “Again I have been re-elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Federation. I am sure that in my next tenure I will meet the expectations of the board as well as members. We will together raise the issues of state UCBs and Credit societies before the government and try to resolve them”.

“It was the first physical meeting after a gap of one and half years. Earlier the meetings were held in virtual mode. There are many issues related to the cooperative banking sector, particularly the elections in several UCBs of states that are yet to hold them due to Covid-19. We met RCS and requested him to conduct the elections. There are 46 UCBs in the state out of which 20 UCBs administrators are there”, he informed.

In the board 13 representatives are from UCBs, 3 are from credit societies and 1 from Mahila UCB.

The election process has been going on in the federation for the last two weeks and Adv. P Srinivas Chakraborty has been appointed the returning officer to oversee the election process. The federation is the apex body of UCBs and Credit Societies. 46 UCBs and 16 credit societies are its members.
