COBI leaders leave for Germany

The apex body of cooperative banks in India COBI may not have got license yet but its leaders never shrink back from organizing international conferences. The entire Board of COBI along with representatives of all kinds of co-op banks have left for Germany to attend an international cooperative conference.

Led by G H Amin the Chairman of COBI the delegation consists of several notable cooperators including Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Dileepbhai Sanghani, Bijender Singh, Sunil Singh, B D Sharma and others. The delegation consists of 25 cooperators altogether, added Amin.

“The conference is in Berlin where Indian bankers will have the chance to get to know about the workings of banks in Germany and Europe. Several banks of Europe would be there”, Amin said with a touch of pride in his voice.

”There are several Chairmen and MDs in our delegation who would benefit from this international exposure. We have planned field tours also through which MDs would see the workings of European banks,” he said justifying the foreign sojourn.

Year after year COBI holds such conferences abroad and a large delegation of Indian cooperators participate in them. Last year they had gone to Vietnam and a year earlier to Tashkent.

Readers would recall story in these columns of Amin meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to grant license to COBI. Amin argues if there is a long-felt need for a national level apex body for co-op banks, COBI fits the bill.

There are primary co-op banks, district co-op banks and even state co-op banks but there is none at the national level. COBI has everything except a banking license. It holds regular Board meetings, AGMs and also international banking conferences practically every year.
