Union Minister Piyush Goyal said a separate power feeder will begin operating in the service of farmers in the next two years. This will ensure electricity supply to every farm. Separate feeders will soon be constructed for agricultural as well as non agricultural activities.
Retweeting Goyal’s words a jubilant Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh wrote “electricity will reach in every farm, feeder will be constructed for agriculture and non agriculture works.”
Meanwhile, the Central government has given the go ahead for the creation of two separate power feeders, he said.
Readers would recall that in 2014, the central government had sanctioned 43 crore for the separation of agriculture and non agricultural feeders under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).
The Minister said under the Deendayal Yojana, free electricity connections to 7,59,377 and 14,39,144 households below the poverty line were released during 2014-15 and 2015-16, respectively.
According to the 2011 census report, in Uttar Pradesh only 23.77 percent of rural households were getting power supply.
In his speech at the inauguration of “Mission Bhageeratha” in Telangana , Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the states which were facing electricity shortage had now become electricity surplus.
Some experts say separate power feeders could greatly improve rural electrification.
