The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Cooperative Department Inspector Harsh Bansal, posted at Tapa in Barnala district, for allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe during a trap operation, media reports say.
The action followed a complaint by retired Cooperative Society secretary Jang Singh, who alleged the inspector had demanded Rs 1 lakh, later reduced to Rs 50,000, to facilitate the release of his retirement dues and settle a departmental inquiry in his favour.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau caught the inspector red-handed and recovered the tainted currency. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is in progress.
