Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan undertook a two-day visit to West Bengal on July 13–14 to review agriculture and rural development initiatives and strengthen Centre-State cooperation.
During the visit, he held discussions with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on key issues, including farmers’ welfare, rural roads, housing, employment and flagship Central schemes.
A high-level review meeting in Kolkata was attended by senior State and Central officials, who assessed the implementation of PM-KISAN, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, MSP operations, rural infrastructure and Panchayati Raj funding, while charting a roadmap for faster agricultural growth. Chouhan also visited the ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres at Barrackpore, where he interacted with jute farmers and women Self-Help Group members.
Scientists demonstrated improved jute varieties, modern retting methods and value-addition technologies aimed at boosting productivity, rural entrepreneurship, farmers’ incomes and sustainable employment across West Bengal.
