BJP MLA Suresh Dhas on Wednesday raised the issue of lakhs of depositors whose money remains stuck in financially troubled multi-state cooperative societies in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
Dhas said deposits worth thousands of crores are locked in institutions such as Dnyanradha, Jijau, Chhatrapati Shahu Urban, Rajasthani, Sairam and Matoshri, leaving lakhs of depositors, particularly in Beed and other parts of the Marathwada region, facing severe financial hardship.
He demanded that properties attached by agencies such as the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), MPID authorities, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other concerned agencies be auctioned within a fixed time frame so that depositors can receive their money at the earliest.
Dhas also called for amendments to the law to prescribe a statutory timeline for the sale of attached assets and to ensure priority repayment to small and poor depositors. He welcomed the provision requiring a 50% deposit before an appeal is entertained, saying it would help curb such financial frauds in the future.
He said he would continue pursuing the issue until depositors receive justice, their hard-earned money is returned, and those responsible face strict action.
