In a major push to strengthen the cooperative banking sector, Uttarakhand’s Cooperation Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has directed officials to submit proposals to the Reserve Bank of India for opening new District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) in Bageshwar, Champawat, and Rudraprayag.

The state also plans to expand banking outreach by opening 50 new cooperative bank branches, with a focus on remote and rural regions. Authorities have been asked to improve service quality and strengthen the reach of existing branches.

Reviewing the performance of district cooperative banks, the minister expressed concern over their inability to meet business targets over the past two years and called for a more result-oriented and time-bound approach.

In a key welfare initiative, employee insurance will be provided through IFFCO Tokio General Insurance via cooperative banks. The minister also directed faster promotions, annual transfers, and speedy computerization of PACS to enhance transparency and efficiency.
