Maharashtra reviews Diesel Pricing for Fisheries Co-ops
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a significant move to provide relief to fisheries cooperatives, a high-level meeting was held in Mumbai on Wednesday to review the classification of diesel pricing under the “bulk consumer” category, an issue that has long impacted fishing communities and cooperative institutions.

During the meeting, representatives of fishermen and cooperative bodies outlined various operational and financial challenges arising from the existing diesel pricing structure. The concerns were heard in detail, and officials were directed to examine the matter and work towards a practical and positive resolution at the earliest.

The discussion also stressed the importance of maximizing the benefits of government schemes extended to the fisheries sector, which has been granted agriculture-equivalent status.

Authorities emphasized that these schemes must effectively reach beneficiaries at the grassroots level across coastal regions.

The meeting was attended by Varsha Gaikwad, Fisheries Commissioner Prerna Deshbhratar, senior officials, and representatives of the fishing community.

The update was shared by Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Development Minister Nitesh Rane on social media.
