India’s cooperative sugar industry has marked a major milestone with the successful commissioning of a state-of-the-art plant at Batala Cooperative Sugar Mills, developed under the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) of National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Ltd.
Launched in 2021 and commissioned in 2024, the Rs 296 crore project showcases next-generation industrial capability within the cooperative framework.
The plant features a crushing capacity of 3,500 TCD, expandable to 5,000 TCD, along with a 14 MW high-efficiency cogeneration facility, positioning it among the most advanced cooperative sugar units in the country.
What sets this project apart is its value-added production edge. The facility can produce around 250 tons of refined sugar per day and nearly 125 tons of pharma-grade sugar, making it India’s first cooperative sugar mill to enter the high-value pharmaceutical sugar segment.
