Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, highlighted India’s growing leadership in Artificial Intelligence and drew special attention to the remarkable innovation showcased by Amul at the Global AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister described the summit as a defining moment in shaping how the world will adopt and regulate AI technologies in the years ahead.
The summit witnessed participation from global technology leaders, policymakers, CEOs, researchers, and start-up innovators from several countries, positioning India at the center of discussions on responsible and inclusive AI development. PM Modi noted that India’s approach to AI is not limited to urban tech hubs but extends to villages and grassroots communities, reflecting the country’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Praising Amul’s efforts, the Prime Minister emphasized how the dairy cooperative has successfully integrated AI-powered solutions into everyday dairy operations. He explained that Artificial Intelligence is now assisting farmers in monitoring animal health, detecting diseases at an early stage, and ensuring timely medical intervention.
Through AI-based systems, dairy farmers are able to track cattle productivity, feeding patterns, and overall well-being with greater precision. This 24×7 digital monitoring support is reducing losses, improving milk yield, and ultimately strengthening farmers’ incomes.
PM Modi observed that global delegates were particularly impressed by how India’s cooperative sector has blended advanced technology with traditional agricultural practices. He noted that Amul’s AI initiatives demonstrate how technology can empower small farmers rather than replace them. The model reflects the broader vision of leveraging innovation to enhance rural livelihoods and modernize agriculture without disrupting its social foundation.
Beyond dairy, the Prime Minister also spoke about AI’s transformative potential in preserving India’s rich civilizational heritage. He mentioned initiatives aimed at digitizing and translating ancient Indian texts, enabling wider access to classical knowledge systems and ensuring their preservation for future generations.
Congratulating citizens on the successful hosting of one of the largest AI gatherings in the world, PM Modi lauded the enthusiasm of India’s youth in embracing innovation. He said that India’s young minds are driving technological advancements that are gaining global recognition.
Founded in 1946 in Anand, Gujarat, Amul has grown into India’s largest dairy cooperative under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). It has empowered over 3.6 million milk producer members across thousands of villages. Amul played a pivotal role in India’s White Revolution, transforming the country from a milk-deficient nation into the world’s largest milk producer.
The brand processes millions of litres of milk daily and offers a wide range of products including milk, butter, cheese, ice cream, and infant nutrition. Its farmer-centric cooperative model ensures that the majority of profits are returned to producers.
In recent years, Amul has expanded into global markets and continues to innovate in sustainability, digital payments, supply chain management, and now Artificial Intelligence, reinforcing its position as a symbol of India’s cooperative success story.
