While proposing the vote of thanks, Dr. Bijay Kumar Behera, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), emphasized the important role of Champion Fish Farmers in capacity building. He encouraged cooperatives to strengthen the skills and capacities of their members to support the sustainable growth of the fisheries sector.
Dr. Behera also urged the Champion Fish Farmers to actively support the upscaling of the 34 fisheries production and processing clusters notified by the Government, highlighting their role in promoting organized development and strengthening fisheries value chains.
The interaction meeting was convened by Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Union Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (MoFAH&D), Government of India, on Wednesday, through video conference to engage with Champion Fish Farmers on their experiences in adopting scientific and modern aquaculture practices.
A total of 59 Champion Fish Farmers participated in the meeting, including a Padmashri awardee. Representatives from the Rajya Sabha, Department of Fisheries, Government of India, ICAR, NFDB, and State Fisheries Departments also joined the interaction.
