District Central Co-operative Banks (DCCBs) largely remained profitable during 2024–25, with 301 banks reporting profits, while 50 DCCBs incurred losses, according to the RBI report.
Profit-making DCCBs were geographically well distributed across the country, with a relatively higher concentration in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, indicating stable earnings performance in major cooperative banking states.
However, the number of loss-making DCCBs increased during the year, signalling emerging stress in certain regions. Of the 50 loss-making banks, nearly 82 per cent were concentrated in just five states, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar and Maharashtra, highlighting the need for targeted corrective and supervisory measures.
Overall, while the dominance of profit-making DCCBs reflects resilience in the rural cooperative banking sector, the growing concentration of losses in select states remains a concern for regulators and stakeholders.
