Complaint of nepotism in UP Co-op Dept solicits Shah’s intervention

In a serious allegation that has raised eyebrows in policy circles, a complaint has been lodged with Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah against senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh Ministry of Cooperation.

The complaint, made public via social media, accuses the nodal officer of appointing retired favourites to key positions in the department, allegedly to facilitate financial gains through backdoor channels.

The tweet tagging Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister’s Office, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and State Cooperation Minister J.P.S. Rathore claims that these questionable appointments are derailing the implementation of Prime Minister Modi’s flagship cooperative initiatives in Uttar Pradesh.

The message alleges that the nodal officer has strategically placed retired associates in influential posts, allowing them to act as informal power centres and siphon off funds or manipulate departmental decisions.

These actions, the complaint implies, not only violate transparency and meritocracy but also actively sabotage the spirit of PM Modi’s much-publicized “Sahakar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation) vision.

The tweet, though brief, implies a larger malaise within the state’s cooperative machinery. It suggests that despite repeated efforts by the Central Government to modernise and empower cooperative institutions across India, Uttar Pradesh, a politically significant and populous state, has failed to deliver on key benchmarks.

The complaint, coming just ahead of key policy reviews expected later this year, is likely to put pressure on the Uttar Pradesh government and the central Ministry of Cooperation to launch an internal inquiry. If proven, the allegations could trigger administrative reshuffles and possible disciplinary action against those involved.

This development also brings back the spotlight on the challenges of implementing cooperative sector reforms at the state level, where political patronage and bureaucratic entrenchment often hinder transparency and accountability.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Ministry of Cooperation or the Uttar Pradesh government. However, with social media amplifying the charge and public interest growing, further developments are expected in the coming days.
