In a glittering ceremony held on Tuesday, former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the 150th branch of Maharashtra’s leading cooperative bank, TJSB Sahakari Bank, at Sawantwadi.

The inauguration coincided with the official merger of the 78-year-old Sawantwadi Urban Co-operative Bank into TJSB, following approval from the Reserve Bank of India. With this merger, the total branch count of TJSB Sahakari Bank has risen to 158.

Addressing the gathering, Prabhu lauded the merger, stating, “Such integrations bring quality banking to remote areas, drive financial inclusion, and enhance the stability of the cooperative banking sector.

Deepak Kesarkar, MLA and Guest of Honour, emphasized that the move would significantly strengthen the financial infrastructure in Sindhudurg and benefit local entrepreneurs and residents.

Sharad Gangal, Chairman of TJSB Sahakari Bank, remarked, “This merger deepens our footprint in the Konkan region and reinforces our commitment to inclusive economic growth.”

Founded in 1972, TJSB Sahakari Bank is a leading multi-state cooperative bank operating across Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh. With this expansion, the bank is now set to extend its presence to Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, further strengthening its national footprint.
