The first phase of National Cooperative Database, data collection of three cooperative sectors i.e. Dairy, PACS and Fisheries has been completed, was revealed by a tweet from the official social media handle of the Ministry of Cooperation.
According to the tweet of MoC, “The mapping work of about 2.63 lakh cooperative societies working in the three primary cooperative sectors i.e. PACS, Dairy and Fisheries has been completed”.
“The mapping of about 5.8 lakh cooperative societies working in the other sectors has also been started. Provision has also been made for regular maintenance, expansion and regular updation of the database”, the tweet added.
Earlier, in Lok Sabha Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said, “Ministry of Cooperation has initiated the process of developing an exhaustive digital database of cooperative societies namely National Cooperative Database for having an authentic & updated data repository of cooperatives working in all sectors including Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and Multi-State cooperatives all over the country”.
“The proposed Database will facilitate all stakeholders in policy making & implementation to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country”, Shah added.
Earlier, Ministry of Cooperation conducted a series of workshops and consultations with stakeholders to identify sector-specific parameters for data collection. Sector specific data collection templates have been prepared based on the inputs received in these workshops and consultations.
The objective of developing the National Database on Cooperatives is to provide a single point of access to information on cooperatives of different sectors and develop a process for better understanding of cooperatives.
The proposed database may function as the main planning tool for Central Ministries, State Governments, Cooperative Federations, Co-operators and Sectoral Institutions like NABARD, etc. for the cooperative sector.
It is envisaged to facilitate policy making, improve governance and improve transparency. It may also help the cooperative sector for its better positioning in the business environment
Readers would recall that earlier while addressing a function at Amreli, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said, “The Central government will monitor online health of cooperatives through this data base”.
