A farmer namely Inderpal representing a Bharatpur (Rajasthan) Honey Fed Farmer Producer Company Ltd., has praised the efforts of the agri cooperative Nafed in encouraging them to do the business of Honey. He shared his views before Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the release of the 10th installment of financial benefit under the PM-KISAN scheme.
In the virtual communication with the PM Narendra Modi, Inderpal said, “With the efforts of Nafed, we are able to do the business of Honey in our city and started selling it in the local markets. But with the setting up of laboratories and processing units by the Nafed, we will be able to produce the quality honey and sell it in different parts of the country”, he added.
“Earlier, due to the lack of knowledge, small beekeepers in our city were unable to sell their honey in the market and were forced to sell it to the middlemen. Then we listened to you (Prime Minister) on television in which you announced that the Central Government will set up 10 thousand new FPOs’ ‘, a farmer informed, which was listened to by the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
He further added, inspired by your idea, we planned to set up a FPOs and later on Nafed officials came to our place and encouraged us to set up an FPO. In our area we are mostly doing the production of Mustard. So, in the off season, we have decided to do some value added activities so that our income can be enhanced”, Inderpal said.
When the Prime Minister asked the farmers that are you getting any support, he replied, “We are getting support from Nafed for operating office and assured us to provide the collection center, laboratory and processing unit, so that the quality honey can be produced and can be sold in different parts of country, he asserted.
FPOs for beekeepers are being developed by Nafed in states like Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. About four to five thousand honey producers would be associated with these five honey FPOs.
According to a rough estimate, about 60,000 quintals of honey would be extracted and processed at the processing units and sold directly to the consumers with the help of NAFED. Along with honey production, technical know-how and export of their products would also be ensured under the project for the overall development of the honey producers.
