In a bid to strengthen the co-op banks of the state, Uttarakhand Cooperative Minister Dhan Singh Rawat has launched a debt collection campaign for recovering up to Rs 850 crore worth bad loans from the borrowers who have taken from State Cooperative Bank and different District Central Cooperative Banks of the state.

The Minister instructed the representatives of SCBs and DCCBs to recover the bad loans and in this regard several meetings have been conducted. The meeting of top 20 big defaulters with the Minister revealed that defaulters owe over Rs 300 crore.

Tehri Garhwal District Cooperative bank is on top of the list, whose NPA is more than that of other co-op banks. Uttarakhand State Cooperative Minister warned that if the borrowers failed to clear the outstanding dues till 10th March 2021, strict action will be taken against them.

Talking to Indian Cooperative Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank Chairman Dan Singh Rawat, “Under the direction of the state co-op minister, we are making efforts to recover the bad loans from the borrowers. We are conducting the meetings of officials for making the strategy and are also launching a door to door campaign. We are sure that a large amount of bad loans will be recovered from the borrowers till the end of the current financial year”. he added on the phone.

Sharing the figures Rawat said, if we talk about the total amount of NPA of the state co-operative bank it is 186.03 crore out of which Rs 1.96 crore has been recovered from the borrowers till 18.01.2021. There are 10 DCCBs in the state and their NPA is amounting to Rs 665.36 crore, out of which Rs 51.60 crore has been recovered till 18.01.2021. We are also taking action against the borrowers under the Sarfaesi Act”, he underlined.

Besides, an amount of Rs 114 crore bad loan is to be recovered from Dhanashree Agro Products Private Limited in Iqbalpur, Uttarakhand. In this regard we met the district magistrate and urged him to intervene in the matter. Our bank has also hired two agencies for recovering the loans, Rawat informed.

It is reported that Udham Singh Nagar has an NPA of 8 crore 58 lakh from Sitarganj and Rudrapur sugar mills. The sugar mills have been shut down. To recover the bad loans, the State Cooperative Minister has asked the officers to sell these sugar mills and the necessary formalities in the regard have been completed. The total NPA of the said bank is amounting to Rs 39.93 crore.

The officers of the cooperative department are also meeting officials of SCB and DCCBs through video conferencing and directing them to expedite the work of NPA recovery.
