In the wake of a news report titled “Nafed Board members rise in arms against the MD” published on 30th April 2020 in Indian Cooperative, Dr Bijender Singh, Chairman Nafed wrote his statement to us stating that as the Chairman he stands by the MD. Observing the best practices of the mass media which includes giving everybody a chance to put forth his point of view, we reproduce the WhatsApp message received from the Nafed Chairman verbatim. We would also not hesitate in publishing views of the man in the news-Sanjeev Chadha, should he wish to do so – Editor

Excerpts from Nafed Chairman letter:

In response to the news item entitled “Nafed Board members rise in arms against the MD” published on 30th April 2020, Dr Bijender Singh, Chairman Nafed stated that he was elected the Chairman of Nafed unanimously in May last year for the third term. He further stated that he enjoys the full support of the Board members and their guidance is always available to him, which helps him in talking important decisions in the Board and Committee meetings.

He also mentioned that the Board meeting held on 29.04.2020, which had to be conducted through video conference due to the covid-2019 restrictions, went on smoothly in spite of some technical glitches. Some important issues like supply of pulses to the State Governments for distribution under PM Garib Kalyan Yojna (PMGKAY) were also brought before the Board of Directors. The Board members appreciated the efforts made by the MD and his team of officers in maintaining the supply of pulses to the States, particularly during this period of crisis. The Board members were also assured that under the given circumstances, Nafed would do it’s best to supplement the efforts of the Government in maintaining the supplies of pulses.

Dr. Bijender Singh, Chairman further informed that the present MD, Shri Sanjeev Chadha who joined in June 2016 has been doing exceedingly well. He has had the opportunity of seeing the working of various MDs during his tenure as the Chairman, but he finds Shri Chadha’s working the best among all. Shri Chadha enjoys his full faith, confidence and outright support.

With the support of the Government and guidance of the Board, Shri Chadha has delivered many positives like reaching settlement of old outstanding dues with the banks, record procurement of pulses and oilseeds under the PSS and PSF schemes of the GOI, record turnover, record profits, etc. Shri Chadha has been monitoring himself on key and important issues on a regular basis.

Shri Chadha has done commendable work in the procurement of apples in Jammu and Kashmir under the MIS scheme of the GOI, which is appreciated at all levels.

The chairman further stated that he would not mince his words in saying that the present MD, Shri Chadha has been doing excellent work in the interest of farmers and the organization and he continues to receive full support of his colleagues in the Board.
