DBT: Taking a cue from PM, IFFCO renews its demand
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Taking a cue from the Prime Minister’s latest move on DBT, IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi has once again reiterated his demand for DBT in fertilizer. Reacting to a spike in saving on account of DBT, Awasthi felt it is high time the scheme should be launched in the fertilizer sector as well.

Awasthi’s tweet on the subject read “Govt should consider #DBT in #Fertilisers now & give direct benefit to #farmers. Help in good #soil health, savings to govt & happy #farmer.”

The government meanwhile has decided to double the ambit of DBT by March next year with the Centre aiming to bring as many as 147 schemes under its purview from the 74 at present, reports ET.

“Congratulations PM @narendramodi @PMOIndia for #DBT in schemes. Savings rise to Rs.1 Lakh Cr next yr’, IFFCO MD congratulated PM on the rising saving.

The Prime Minister in the recent past has spoken about the Rs 28,000 crore savings through the DBT and theNarednra Modi government expects that the savings figure could touch Rs 1 lakh cr with the scheme’s ambit being extended, read ET excerpts.

A move towards direct cash transfer to farmers by launching pilot projects for distribution of fertilizer in some of the districts of Odisha and Gujarat had been launched earlier. One of the challenges before the govt is it does not have data on the number of beneficiaries. IFFCO earlier offered to help the govt on this.
