Reports of co-op week being celebrated by various co-operative bodies across India are coming to fore. If NCUI inaugurated the show in the presence of Union State Minister Mohanbhai Kundariya, the Trichy Cooperative Societies in Tamil Nadu held a week-long event to acquaint farmers with their activities, reports Times of India.

The Trichy Societies have so far given loans amounting to Rs 146 crore, with a target of Rs 222 crore, for the current fiscal. The loans have benefitted 26,634 farmers so far. At least 136 cooperative societies attached to the regional centre have been digitized, with total deposits increasing to Rs1,803 crore.

Tamil Nadu Food Minister said at the 62nd Cooperative Week celebrations cooperative bodies should repay in time in order to allow others to get credit, reports Hindu.

The minister said times have changed to the extent that now even the cooperative institutions were extending credit to the SHGs.

However, the minister underlined the fact that those who borrow money from cooperative institutions must repay as soon as possible. The Minister gave away Rs. 70.36 lakh worth credit facilities to 202 SHG members and honoured cooperative institutions that have shown good performance.
