Amul plans plant in Sankrail, WB

R S SodhiAccording to a Calcutta based news outlet, R.S.Sodhi MD of the Amul owing Gujarat milk cooperative giant GCMMF has said his company will set up a state of the art milk processing plant in Sankrail in West Bengal.

The plan will come to fruition in about 15 months and the plant will cost Rs.250 crore. The unit will process a total of 15 lakh litres of milk daily. Presently three units already operating in Calcutta on contractual basis are only processing a little more than 7 lakh litres a day, Mr. Sodhi says.

According to Mr. Sodhi, the Gujarat milk cooperative intends investing about Rs. 5000 crore in the three few years to increase milk production and processing capacities. The company will add 10 new processing plants and undertake a comprehensive modernization of the existing units in as many years.

The fresh investments will help the company spike its annual turnover to a whopping Rs. 50, 000 crore soon, Mr. Sodhi claims. The milk cooperative titan runs 51 plants altogether in the country including 41 in Gujarat.
