With a single party government at the centre, the passing year 2014 has given hopes to the entire country of “achche din ayenge”. The entire cooperative fraternity in India is eagerly looking forward to this.

We are sure to watch, as time unfolds, many things under this new government such as removal of red tape in government procedures and motivation to co-operators with schemes like Jan-dhan etc.

Also with abolition of Planning Commission (a really bold but necessary policy decision by Prime Minister ) a grassroots worker like me in co-operative sector now expect that in comparison with Private and Public Sector, the planners since the first five year plan, have totally neglected  the importance of co-operative sector in every field like production, marketing, banking & finance, processing and also in service sector, which is the most suited form of enterprise for country like India.

Stalwart of co-op sector like Prof.D.R.Gadgil, Vaikunth bhai Mehta have already predicted half decade back that “Though Co-operation has failed, Co-operation must Succeed”.

I now look forward to new government with a visionary prime minister like Narendra ji Modi, that he will re-establish the glory of the co-operative sector in coming year 2015.

Hope your words prove true as cooperative is indeed crying for an able leadership.

It is enough if all the grass-root cooperators voice for true implementation of 97th CAA, the glory gets re-established automatically. Otherwise its all humbug to swindle cooperative sector.

It is all tall talk. When it comes to practice, nothing really seems to be changing. The Constitutional amendment aimed at providing autonomy to co-op institutions, but the State Governments have different ideas up their sleeves. Local bosses would not let go of the distinct advantage of heading co-operatives, particularly in terms of political clout and unrestricted access to finances of the institutions. Maharashtra Government has made a mess of the housing co-operative elections. Administrative control has been tightened, by merely changing the designation from Administrator to Authorised Office. Single unit co-operatives ae unnecessarily treated on par with big multiple unit co-operatives. Even the change of government has not brought about any change at least in Maharashtra.
