The ICAR-Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Research Institute (ICAR-MGIFRI), Motihari, Bihar, organised a farmer awareness and field interaction programme under Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026 at Kothia Hariram village in East Champaran on October 27.
The programme, attended by 29 farmers and participants, focused on balanced fertilisation, soil health management, nutrient recycling and sustainable cultivation of mango and litchi orchards.
Dr. Amol K. Jadhav, Scientist at ICAR-MGIFRI, stressed the importance of soil-test-based fertiliser application to reduce cultivation costs, prevent nutrient imbalances and maintain long-term soil fertility.
Farmers were encouraged to recycle crop residues, fallen leaves, farmyard manure and compost to improve soil structure and nutrient availability. The discussions also highlighted intercropping and crop diversification as ways to improve land-use efficiency and generate supplementary income.
Through direct interaction with farmers, ICAR-MGIFRI aims to promote sustainable horticultural practices, efficient resource management and climate-resilient agricultural livelihoods in Bihar’s fruit-growing regions.
