The Bihar Cooperation Department is working to organise the state’s local and regional products into cooperative groups under the New Cooperation Policy 2026, aiming to strengthen rural livelihoods and empower local producers.
The initiative seeks to bring producers together through cooperatives, helping them improve market access, promote traditional products and enhance their economic prospects. Special emphasis is being placed on products with Geographical Indication (GI) tags and the protection of intellectual property rights.
The move reflects Bihar’s efforts to use the cooperative model to promote local enterprise, strengthen farmers’ incomes and create sustainable livelihood opportunities. By organising scattered producers into collective platforms, the state aims to improve the visibility and market potential of its distinctive products.
The initiative also aligns with the broader objective of making cooperatives an effective instrument of inclusive growth and grassroots economic development.
