Smt. Gunjan Krishna, Joint Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Government of India, visited Halali Dam in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh to review fisheries development activities and interact with fishers and representatives of the local cooperative society.
During the visit, she reviewed the progress of cage-based fish farming, with more than 300 cages installed at Halali Dam under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The initiative is promoting scientific fish farming, expanding livelihood opportunities for local fishers and contributing to increased fish production.
The interaction with members of the cooperative society highlighted the role of collective participation in strengthening fisheries-based livelihoods and improving the economic prospects of fishing communities.
Krishna also inspected the post-harvest facilities at the dam, where Indian Major Carps (IMCs) and other fish varieties are handled and dispatched to different parts of the country in refrigerated vans.
The facilities are helping improve fish handling, maintain quality, ensure efficient transportation and strengthen market linkages, further supporting the development of cooperative-led fisheries enterprises.
