There appears to be no immediate respite for five urban cooperative banks as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the period of regulatory directions imposed on them by another three months, subject to review.
The extension covers Ramgarhia Co-operative Bank, New Delhi; The Baghat Urban Co-operative Bank, Solan; Samarth Sahakari Bank, Solapur; Sadbhav Nagrik Sahakari Bank Maryadit, Chhatarpur; and Motiram Agrawal Jalna Merchants Co-operative Bank, Jalna.
For Ramgarhia Bank and Baghat Urban Co-operative Bank, the directions have been extended from the close of business on October 8, 2026, until January 8, 2027. The directions applicable to Samarth Sahakari Bank and Sadbhav Nagrik Sahakari Bank have been extended from October 7, 2026, until January 7, 2027.
In the case of Motiram Agrawal Jalna Merchants Co-operative Bank, the directions have been extended from October 10, 2026, until January 10, 2027.
The RBI said the extensions were necessary in the public interest. It also clarified that the move should not be construed as satisfaction with the financial position of the banks. Other terms and conditions of the existing directions will remain unchanged.
