The Delhi Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) has directed all Cooperative Group Housing Societies (CGHS) in the capital to conduct an immediate comprehensive safety audit of their buildings and common facilities.
In a circular, the RCS said societies must inspect structural safety, including major cracks, seepage, leakage, roof and external wall damage, staircases and other conditions that could affect the safety of residents.
The managing committees have also been asked to verify valid Fire Safety Certificates/NOCs, functioning of fire-fighting equipment and safety installations, as well as lift inspection and safety certificates and proper maintenance of lifts.
The RCS said any serious structural or safety deficiency posing an imminent risk to life or property must be reported immediately to the competent authority and remedial measures taken without delay.
The circular, citing Rule 106 of the Delhi Cooperative Societies Rules, 2007, places responsibility for regular inspection, repair and maintenance on the managing committees.
Societies have been given three weeks to submit compliance reports to the RCS.
