NAFED’s retail business is showing a sharp rise in the current financial year, with turnover crossing Rs 48 crore in just six months compared with Rs 42 crore recorded during the whole of the previous year.
Sharing the figures at NAFED’s 69th Annual General Body Meeting at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Managing Director Deepak Agarwal said the performance reflected the federation’s growing focus on expanding its commercial and non-procurement activities.
Agarwal expressed confidence that NAFED’s retail business could cross the Rs 100-crore mark during the current financial year if the present growth momentum continues.
The expansion of retail is significant as NAFED seeks to diversify its business beyond government-supported procurement operations and develop stronger independent revenue streams. The federation is simultaneously building market linkages with institutional and private-sector buyers and expanding the reach of its products.
The MD has stressed that NAFED needs to develop sufficient non-government business to remain financially resilient even in the face of major challenges.
The strong retail numbers therefore form part of a larger transformation strategy aimed at making NAFED more commercially active, financially sustainable and future-ready.
