Customers of cooperative banks are unlikely to face disruption in banking services during the three-day bank strike proposed by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30, 2026, with the cooperative banking sector reaffirming that its institutions have not proposed to participate in the strike.
The assurance was issued jointly by three major bodies representing the cooperative banking sector, National Federation of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies (NAFCUB), National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC), and National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB).
The organisations said cooperative banks across the country will continue to provide banking services to customers, members and businesses according to their normal operational arrangements.
The cooperative banking network includes around 1,450 Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs), 34 State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and 351 District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs), with a presence across urban, semi-urban and rural areas.
Customers can continue to access services such as deposits, withdrawals, remittances and other branch transactions, subject to the facilities offered by individual banks. Farmers and members can also approach their respective cooperative banks for agricultural and other credit requirements.
Digital channels, including ATMs, mobile banking, internet banking and UPI, will also remain available wherever these facilities are offered by individual institutions.
The three bodies advised customers to contact their respective cooperative bank or branch for information on specific services and transaction facilities during the strike period.
Highlighting the grassroots reach of the cooperative banking system, NAFCUB, NUCFDC and NAFSCOB reiterated the sector’s commitment to customer service, financial inclusion and accessible banking, assuring members and customers that cooperative banks at the urban, state and district levels will continue operations as per their normal arrangements.
