The Union Ministry of Cooperation has highlighted a major financial push to strengthen the cooperative sugar sector, with 56 cooperative sugar mills receiving loans worth Rs 10,005 crore through the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
Sharing the update on social media, the Ministry said the funding is aimed at empowering cooperative sugar mills and enhancing their operational efficiency. The financial support will help mills establish ethanol and cogeneration plants, while also meeting their working capital requirements.
The initiative is expected to give fresh momentum to the diversification of cooperative sugar mills, enabling them to move beyond conventional sugar production and tap into value-added opportunities in ethanol and energy generation.
The Ministry described the initiative as a step towards “empowerment through cooperation and a new momentum for the sugar industry.
