Sindhudurg District Central Cooperative Bank (DCCB) Chairman Manish Dalvi has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to extend the benefits of the state’s farm loan waiver scheme to farmers who had availed themselves of Khawati (consumption) loans.
Dalvi, accompanied by Sindhudurg Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane, met the Chief Minister in Mumbai and submitted a memorandum seeking the inclusion of these loans under the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana, 2017.
According to the bank, short-term Khawati loans of up to Rs 20,000 were disbursed to farmers through 226 affiliated primary agricultural development societies, in addition to crop loans, following NABARD guidelines.
Although a government order issued on February 13, 2019, directed that these loans be covered under the waiver scheme, the process remains incomplete because the required data could not be uploaded to the designated portal.
The bank said 9,694 farmers with outstanding loans worth Rs 13.37 crore are still awaiting relief and called for immediate government intervention.
