Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah highlighted the rapid progress made by the three national-level multi-state cooperative societies established under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002, saying they have significantly strengthened India’s cooperative ecosystem in the areas of seeds, organics and exports.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Shah said Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) has emerged as the country’s largest cooperative society by membership, with 38,665 member cooperatives.
During FY 2025-26, BBSSL produced 6.08 lakh quintals of quality seeds across 15 crops through over 19,400 farmers and marketed 3.19 lakh quintals under the ‘Bharat Beej’ brand. It has also secured seed licences in 17 states.
On National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), Shah said 14,286 PACS and cooperative societies have joined the organisation. Its ‘Bharat Organics’ brand now offers 29 certified organic products, supported by testing for over 245 pesticide residues, and is available through a dedicated D2C portal as well as platforms such as Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy, BigBasket and Amazon.
Shah further informed that National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL) has enrolled 16,408 member cooperatives and exported around 15.40 lakh metric tonnes of 54 agricultural commodities worth Rs 6,341 crore to 38 countries. NCEL also declared a 20% dividend to its member cooperatives during FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25.
The Minister said the three apex cooperative institutions are playing a key role in promoting value addition, marketing, exports and farmer-centric services through the cooperative model.
