Sugar Co-op Awards: Maharashtra bags most, UP a close 2nd

The apex body of sugar co-ops-National Federation of Cooperative Factories (NFCSF) has announced the date for the Efficiency Awards distribution ceremony, which is to be organized on 16th November at the NUI Auditorium, New Delhi.

The 21 cooperative sugar factories have been selected for awards across categories. The award for the Best Coop Sugar Mills in India has been bagged by Pandurang Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd, Solapur, Maharashtra. Among the 21 winners, Maharashtra figures the top bagging ten Awards while Uttar Pradesh stands second.

Vitthalrao Shinde SSK Ltd, Pimpalner, Maharashtra got the first prize in the Maximum Sugar Export Award, and Sahyadri Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., Solapur in Maharashtra got the second.

Cooperative sugar mills from Haryana, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu have received two awards each. Madhya Pradesh received one award at the national level.

Besides, the sugar federation is approaching many VIPs including NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, and others to attend the event.

The awardees’ performance evaluation is done in streams viz., Cane Development, Technical Efficiency, and Financial Management based on which maximum scoring mills are awarded.

NFCSF initiated its awards ceremonial function to promote the cooperative sugar mills since its Silver Jubilee Year 1985 under the Chairmanship of Chief Director (Sugar), Ministry of Food & Public Distribution.

Readers would recall that the NFCSF generally gives awards to successful co-ops in its Annual General Meeting but due to Covid-19, the federation failed to organize the award ceremony for the past two years, hence, the function on 16th November.

NFCSF is the apex body of sugar co-operatives in the country with its office located in an upscale area of South Delhi. NFCSF has about 258 cooperative sugar mills and 9 state Cooperative Federations as its members.
