Pawar’s talk of Sugar decontrol smacks of his retirement plan—Shish Pal

Sharad Pawar the Agriculture Minister wants decontrol of sugar. He says his ministry will write to Cabinet for decontrolling sugar. Sugar decontrol is expected to lower down the price of sugar benefiting common man. It may however not be beneficial to sugarcane producing farmers as sugar mills will no longer be offering protected rate to farmers.

Pawar, though talks of government  right to continue with minimum support price for the sugar cane producers, in reality this may not be possible.

Sharad Pawar has always championed the cause of cooperatives as his political existence largely owes to it. What then made him shift his stand?

According to Shri Shish Pal, Chairman Sahakari Ganna Samiti,Hapur Pawar feels as if his innings are over, caught as he is in several controversies. He has already met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting less burdensome job.  He intends to bid good bye by doing something for which posterity may remember him.
