The 77th Annual General meeting of the Indian Sugar Mills Association will be held on Wednesday, the 21st December 2011 in New Delhi. The meeting will be inaugurated by Shri K V Thomas, Minister of State, Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

ISMA has been demanding more export for sugar given the bumper crop this season. It demanded increase up to 3 million tonnes in the export of sugar.

Shri Narendra Murukumbi, President of the Association will preside over the meeting.

The meeting will take stock of the various developments that have taken place in the sugar industry during the year 2011. It will also discuss the pertinent issues and key problems that are plaguing the sector going forward.

The meeting is expected to witness a large gathering of people associated with the sector from across the country, a number of prominent government officials and special invitees related to the sector from across continents.

India’s sugar output rose by 17 per cent to 2.16 million tonnes in the first two months of the 2011-12 season, even though crushing operations were delayed in Maharashtra.

ISMA has pegged the country’s total sugar production at 26 million tonnes in the 2011-12 season, slightly higher than the government’s forecast of 24.6 to 25 million tonnes.
