NLCF saga gets murkier; FIR & counter FIR bedevil co-op bonhomie

Despite getting reinstated as the Managing Director of National Labour Cooperatives Federation of India (NLCF) N Satyanarayana still faces roadblocks in joining the office. The new episode started in the board meeting held on 25th August 2022 virtually when N Satyanarayana presented the agenda related to his restoration as per the circular released by CRCS earlier this month.

“But ruckus was created in the virtual meeting and it was deliberate so that no decision is taken” alleges Satyanarayan. Satyanarayan argues that the Board can indeed appoint anyone as MD but not before the court order reinstating me is implemented.

The board meeting was called by me on August 25 to honour the court order reinstating me. They can oust me in the next board meeting if they desire”, stated Satyanarayan.

According to sources the whole episode has its genesis in the fact that the NLCF board is not eager to honour the court order and has appointed old hand Vinay Kumar Chauhan as acting MD.

Talking to Indian Cooperative Amit Bajaj, one of the Vice-Chairmen gave a different picture of the whole episode. Bajaj said that the August 25 meeting did take place and due to a variety of charges against him, Satyanarayan was suspended, though not ousted. Vinay Kumar Chauhan has not been made MD yet but has been given the charge of the same for the time-being.

Chauhan also repeats the same story and claims that during the board meeting, the board members gave him the charge of the Managing Director of NLCF with immediate effect.

However, N Satyanarayana told the Indian Cooperative that due to ruckus in the meeting decisions on several subjects were not taken. “On the day of the meeting Chauhan with his team destroyed the link to the Zoom app with the objective to postpone or cancel the meeting”, he alleges.

“I have issued the Show Cause Notice against Chauhan, in which questions related to the misuse of government grants and NLCF funds were asked. Without authority, he illegally transferred government grants-in-aid of over Rs 4 lakh to Bishnu manager and paid Rs 50k to the advocate on 26.05.2022 without any approval”, Satyanaryana alleges.

Meanwhile Chauhan’s accusation is that N. Satyanarayana shouted at the staff members and locked the Managing Director’s Chamber and also took the office laptop along with the keys. NLCF filed a police complaint at Sarita Vihar Police Station against Satyanarayana for stealing the office property, he added.

Due to the battle for supremacy going on in NLCF, the labour cooperative movement of India is a big loser. It is being said, when NLCF approached the Ministry of Cooperation for seeking time from Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah to inaugurate the National Conference on labour cooperation, the ministry had asked officials to resolve internal issues.
