President of National Cooperative Union of India and a cooperator with social and political roots in Uttar Pradesh Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav has condemned the Yogi govt for its latest move to amend the UP Cooperative Committee Act which would put enormous powers in the hands of Babus at the cost of elected representatives.
“This is negation of cooperative principles so dear to cooperators across the globe, to tell you the least”, Yadav reacted on the development.
There are democratic ways to acquire power and BJP could have waited till January when the cooperative elections are scheduled in the state; handing over everything to bureaucrats in a hurry is unfortunate, Yadav underlined.
It bears recall that Uttar Pradesh government has decided to amend the UP Cooperative Committee Act to give elaborate powers to the senior officials to take action against the erring employees and the defunct cooperative
The government said that an ordinance would be brought for this amendment replacing it with a Bill in the next session of the state legislature. The government proposes to amend section 29 and 31 of the Act.
The decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting Tuesday evening which was chaired by chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
NCUI President said that a co-op organization has to run on the decision of the elected representatives; this is the fundamental principle, he added. The govt move is nothing short of a murder of democracy in co-ops.
