In a bid to push the idea of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah of having Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACCs) in every ‘Panchayat’ of the country, the apex body of co-ops-NCUI has geared up to take the lead and in this connection a brainstorming was done with Chairmen, MDs and CEOs of state cooperative unions at its headquarters on Wednesday.
The boardroom of NCUI was packed with co-operators who came from different state cooperative unions to take part in the meeting. In the first phase, the focus will be on the formation and promotion of new co-ops in the sector of PACS, Dairy and Fisheries.
Welcoming the participants, NCUI President Dileep Sanghani motivated representatives of state cooperative unions to come together to achieve the goal of formation and promotion of new co-ops in the sector of PACS, Dairy and Fisheries. Many field projects of NCUI, going on in different parts of the country are also playing an important role”, he added.
In his speech, ICA-AP Chairman Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, “ It is heartening to note that the govt is laying emphasis on the strengthening of PACCs societies. They have introduced model bye-laws as well as launched schemes for their computerization. Now, the time has come for the expansion of PACCs network especially where there are no PACCs and it is not possible without the support of cooperative unions who have reach in their respective areas”.
Addressing the participants, NCUI board member GH Amin said, “There are 33 district cooperative unions in Gujarat and these unions should come forward to set up PACCs. Many times, we have seen that due to respective area co-op registrars’ apathy, they have failed to register”, he asserted.
NCUI Chief Executive Sudhir Mahajan said, “With the help of 34 field projects of NCUI, we are setting up the new PACCs and so far, we have made around 500-600. The Government plans to form one lakh new PACCs and unions can contribute a lot in this mission due to their outreach at the grassroots level”.
Besides, participants also put forward their views and suggestions before top cooperative functionaries present on this occasion.
Readers would recall that the NCUI has established a separate “Cooperative Extension and Advisory Services (CEAS) Division” for strengthening the existing cooperatives and expansion of the cooperative sector in cooperatively dry as well as potential areas and thereby trying to help strengthen the cooperative movement in the country.
The event was moderated by NCUI Deputy CE Savitri Singh and was attended by the top officials of NCUI including, Ved Prakash Setia, Ritesh Dey and others.
