NCUI’s CE extension: Will he get; will he not!

The NCUI Board meeting which took place in Patna on the occasion of the cooperative show organized by Sunil Singh and his team also took up the issue of Dr Dinesh’s extension as the Chief Executive for the next term.

Though the issue was not on the agenda, it was taken up nevertheless as an additional agenda, a source informed Indian Cooperative. Dinesh’s term is coming to an end in April this year.

Knowledgeable sources said all the officials including the CE were asked to leave when the matter was raised in the Board. It is believed that the Governing Council members wanted to leave the matter to the discretion of President Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav who had initially expressed his unwillingness to accept the responsibility.

Meanwhile, Dr Dinesh’s detractors have mounted a “No Extension Campaign’’ citing vigilance cases pending against him. On condition of anonymity they said the conduct of the Chief Executive is not above board and he has been warned by the president on several occasions. They also accuse him of harassing the vendors connected with NCUI no end.

Those who favour Dr Dinesh’s extension, claim that a vilification campaign has been launched against him by those having their eyes on the coveted post of the apex body. “He is a fellow who builds a quick rapport with the elected cooperators in no time leading to a significant improvement in the activities of the apex body”, they counter.

The matter, it seems, has passed on to the President who is tightlipped on the matter. Knowledgeable sources say the ministry also has shown no interest in the matter. Since the board decided about his appointment, the Board alone could take a final call on his future, they argue.

According to information gathered by Indian Cooperative, the GC itself is divided on the issue with some rooting for Dr Dinesh while others opposing his extension. A full house debate could not take place as the Patna board meeting could barely fulfill the quorum as several members including Shivaji Rao Patil, Shivsadan Nair, Jyotindra Mehta were absent.

Meanwhile, the man who has been entrusted to take a final call on the matter remains inscrutable. Even his best friends are not able to fathom his mind. A view however emerging in the corridors of NCUI is that of allowing him to continue till the General Assembly of ICA(A-p) slated in November 2016 and take a call on his future thereafter.

Earlier, in an interview with Indian Cooperative Dr Dinesh has said “if you ask me if I am interested I would say yes as I am excited to oversee the ICA-AP Co-op Assembly scheduled later this year. I have been part of the entire planning-process and somehow got attached to it emotionally” he added.
