NCUI trains UCBs’ professionals on RBI norms

UCBs are often faulted by RBI for violation of certain norms in want of proper understanding of the issues. NCUI tried to supply the necessary education to them by organizing a Leadership Development Programme for Chairman and Directors of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies last week.

The training by National Centre for Cooperative Education –an arm of NCUI focussed on the role and responsibilities of Board of Directors in  proper management of their cooperatives.  The Programme was inaugurated by Yogesh Sharma, Director NAFCUB, he narrated that all Urban Cooperative Banks is to promote the Urban Cooperatives and  Credit Movement and protect the interest of the sectors.

At present, it represents around 1589 Urban Cooperative Banks and 50,000 cooperative credit societies functioning all over India. He also stressed that there is a need of good governance and adoption of information technology in the Cooperative Banks which enables them to function more effectively.

Dr. V. K. Dubey, Director, NCCE in his address emphasized that there is a need for the strong and clean policies of RBI & Ministry. NAFCUB in this direction should take necessary steps for growth and development of cooperative banking sectors. He said that the cooperative bank must adopt latest technology and developments in banking sectors. The cooperative principle and values will help to motivate people to come under the cooperative fold.

Besides these, deliberations were made by the experts from Government of India, RBI, and different banking sectors related to discussions about various aspects particularly assets-liability, funds, KYC, recent regulations, recovery, credit appraisal, monitoring and IT strategies, qualities & functions needed for effective cooperative leadership etc.

The participants also got inputs from the programmes about latest technologies, responsibilities of Board Members  in the management of urban Cooperative Banks & challenges come across for working of the banks. The programme was concluded on 9th September 2015.

The officials from RBI, official from different National level Organizations and Faculty of NCCE were also present. The suggestions were given by participants for strengthening of the urban cooperative banking system in the country. Dr. A.R. Srinath Deputy Director & Course Coordinator proposed a vote of thanks on the occasion.
