NCUI: NCCE trains women cooperators

NCCE recently conducted a three day Leadership Development Programme for Women Chairperson and Board of Directors of Women Cooperative Societies. The programme aimed to strengthen Women Cooperatives through empowering women in the activities of income generation, self help groups, entrepreneurship skills for cooperative development, governance and professional management in cooperative societies.

About 40 participants from Assam, Gujarat and Karnataka attended the programme.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. V. K. Dubey, Director, NCCE. In his inaugural remarks he said women cooperative societies should be strengthened by undertaking different activities through cooperatives. They should also be enabled to establish micro and small enterprises through self help and the cooperative system.

In his remarks NCUI chief executive N. Satyanarayana stressed the importance of the role of women at the grassroots level and the need to involve them more and more in the cooperative activities. He also urged women to refresh and retrain themselves by attending training and education programmes.

The major points discussed during the programme included Cooperative Ideology, Philosophy and Cooperative principles & Values, Entrepreneurship Skill for Cooperative Development, Cashless Business Management in Cooperative, Maintenance of Books of Accounts & Record of a Cooperative Society, Types and Styles of Cooperative Leaders, Communication Skill in Cooperative Societies, Qualities and Functions of Effective Leadership, Role and responsibilities of Board of Directors and Problems & Challenges of Women Cooperatives in India.

As a part of the training programme, participants visited NCDC Topic Centre, Gurgaon for acquiring knowledge about schemes and policies for financial assistance to the women cooperative societies through NCDC. The programme had been coordinated by Dr. A. R. Srinath, Deputy Director, NCUI. Mrs Sarla Rani, Asstt Director and Mrs Veena Sachdeva, Asstt Director, NCUI were also present during the programme.
