NCUI: NCCE joins hands with NCHF for house for all

NCCE recently organized a training program in collaboration with National Cooperative Housing Federation (NCHF) on promoting, developing and coordinating the activities of housing cooperatives in the country.

41 participants attended the program from states like Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Gujarat, Dehradun, New Delhi, and Maharashtra.The theme of the event how housing societies could deal with strength, weakness, opportunities and threats before them.

The program was inaugurated by N.S. Mehra MD, NCHF Dr. V.K.Dubey, Director, NCCE . Several other officers were also present in the inaugural session. Mehra shared his deep insights with the participants on problems and challenges before housing cooperatives. He also thanked NCUI and NCCE for organizing the training program.

Buying a house or renting an apartment is not the only housing option available in the marketplace. Housing cooperatives popularly known as CHS, provide an alternative to the traditional methods of acquiring a primary residence, he said.

Co-op Housing Societies are often less expensive than apartments because they operate on an at-cost basis, collecting money from residents to pay outstanding bills. In areas where the cost of living is high, co-ops may be an attractive option from a financial perspective, he added.

Dr. V.K Dubey, Director, NCCE explained the training schedule and gave a wonderful presentation on the Importance of cooperative management. Co-ops must abide by the laws that govern fair housing, but they can be more restrictive than other housing options when it comes to ownership requirements, he stated.

There is no landlord, and there are no tenants, the rules for purchasing shares in the partnership are set by the partners. Housing cooperatives provide affordable and quality residences, claimed the official.

Different subjects were discussed like cooperative thoughts, value-based management, problems and challenges of housing cooperatives, accounting and taxation of cooperative group housing society, cost effective and emerging technologies, conducting various types of meetings conducted by cooperative societies. A lecture was also delivered on the role of NHB in promoting affordable housing societies and settlement of disputes.

The query and doubts were also taken up during the training program. The participants also went for a study visit tour which they enjoyed. All participants were awarded a certificate of participation in the last day of the program.

The participants appreciated the program and were satisfied with all the arrangements and the knowledge they gained through this leadership development program.
